Snorkeling in Belize City

Based on other people's reviews, I booked Coral Breeze. It was excellent. We snorkeled, which was beautiful despite most of the coral being dead. There were a lot of the purple fans and also some tube shaped corals. The fish were beautiful as well, though not crazy dense like in Thailand. I would highly recommend this as a first snorkeling tour. I would next time, pay them to take a boat privately for a couple of hours, where the boat just waits for you and you take your time snorkeling and spending as much time as you want in each area. This one was a very goal oriented, follow your team leader, so it was just swim, swim, swim. Once we got to the sting rays and sharks, oh boy! That was incredible!!! The Sting Rays swim all around you, past you, brush up against you. Fabulous.

Saw some awesome coral and various fish. Would have been better if actual beginners and those that do not know how to swim with flippers actually went into the beginner group instead of the intermediate group.

Boat ride to a private island over the reef. Although fun, it was way overpriced at $80. They didn't have showers or free drinks/food. Would have been worth about $50.

Huge outing, there were way too many people there who didn't know how to snorkel and destroyed the wildlife. The current was way too strong for beginners, the guides should have known better. :( What we saw was beautiful though!

Belize: Corel Breeze Snorking We had been to Belize once before in 2004 on our first cruise ever (Elation) and taken a Carnival snorkeling excursion that taught us Belize has the best snorkeling anywhere! But being veteran cruisers, this time we booked a snorkeling tour on our own through Corel Breeze tours. Cost was $72 pp for 4.5 hrs with 3 guides for about 24 people. Non-snorkelers can go too for $42. Required a 40 minute boat ride while the guides imparted really interesting information about Belize and the area. Then 45 minutes with stingrays and sharks (non-biting nursing sharks) in about 4 feet of water and another 45 minutes of snorkeling in deeper water with beautiful coral and LOTS of colorful, beautiful fish. Next we had 90 minutes on Caye Caulker which is a quaint island. Included time to eat lunch (not included in the price) and explore the small island where transportation is entirely walking, bikes, and golf carts. The water around Belize is unlike anywhere else!
