Flying into Dangriga

Saturday, Day 1

Arrive at Belize International Airport, then continue on a local flight to Dangriga (guest responsibility, see Domestic Flight Reservations). We meet at Pelican Beach Resort at 6:00 p.m., and all hotels, meals, and transport are covered from then on. Once you land in Dangriga, if you can carry your luggage about the distance of the length of a football field, simply walk from the airstrip directly towards the sea. When you reach the sea, you are at Pelican Beach! Check in there, and meet us at 6:00 p.m. on the veranda. If you have too much to carry, catch a cab one block to Pelican Beach. This will cost approximately $5 US

Important Note: your flight should land in Belize no later than 3:45 p.m. prior to Jan. 15, or by 4:05 pm from January 16 onward to ensure you will be able to catch the last flight to Dangriga (at 4:40 until Jan 15, at 5:00 Jan. 16 - late April). If you land later you will likely have to catch a cab to catch up with the group. (If you must arrive later request the Belize Adventure Week information sheet for If Late or Delayed for more info on catching up with the group). Orientation, dinner, and overnight at Pelican Beach Resort.

Sunday, Day 2

After a sunrise awakening and coffee, we drive to Bocawina Rainforest Resort (45 min) for breakfast, then prepare for the waterfall rappelling adventure. The hike is about 600’ up a steep jungle trail, where a huge overlook and refreshing pool await at the top.

After donning climbing gear, the guides train everyone on rappelling. One by one each person descends through the waterfalls! Guests can hike back down to opt out of this event if they choose, as watching is almost as exciting as the rappel itself. This is a thrilling morning!

Lunch is served picnic-style, and then we go ziplining! A short hike brings us to the start of the course, which is set in 8 stages, with the longest run 2300 feet! Mama Noots’ guides set everyone up with harnesses and give thorough instruction on the zipline technique. Any guests feeling uncertain of their ability can ride tandem with a guide. Your flight through the canopy is one you’ll not soon forget!

In early afternoon we load up and begin the drive to our next destination, Windy Hill Resort near San Ignacio (2 hrs). Our route follows the Hummingbird Hwy, which winds through the lush rainforest among the foothills of the Maya Mountains, and is a strikingly beautiful drive. Dinner and lodging at Windy Hill this evening.

After breakfast we embark on a kayak run down the Mopan River. We use sit-on-top kayaks for this adventure, which are stable and able to navigate the easy rapids. A training session is first conducted on land, with further instruction provided as we travel downstream.

The beginner-level rapids are quite exciting! You will learn to surf waves, dodge rocks, and plunge off small drops. A restaurant at the take out prepares our lunch.

Next we drive a short distance to Xunantunich Mayan Ruins, where we climb The Castillo pyramid while our guide gives a talk on Mayan culture. We return to Windy Hill for our final night in the jungle.

Tuesday, Day 4

This morning we pack up and head out to the Caves Branch River. After a short river orientation we launch on our underground journey in hardshell kayaks, navigating four caverns by headlamp. This unique trip combines caving and river running for an unusual, captivating ride.

We must negotiate a quarter-mile portage on a jungle trail. This fabulous odyssey is arguably the best one-day adventure in the country, a must-do for any visit to Belize! Upon finishing this trip, we drive back to Belize City to our accommodations at the Belize Biltmore hotel, where we are joined by others on the Adventure Island at Glover’s Reef Second Half package. Before dinner, your guide covers information on the island and the boat ride coming up the next day.

Wednesday, Day 5

Time to hit the Caribbean! After breakfast First Half guests are on their own to fly home or continue to other activities. Everyone else heads out to our island, Long Caye, on our private shuttle boat (3 hrs). Arriving before noon, we tour the island facilities, have lunch, and move into our cabanas. Soon after, we assemble for our first snorkel excursion, swimming to the reefs right from shore. Visit our snorkeling page for more underwater images and a list of creatures we often see. You can also find a map of our Belize snorkeling sites on the same page.

Time permitting, some guests may want to try out kayak surfing if the waves are up. You retire to your cabana on the shore where the sounds of the sea lull you to sleep.

Thursday, Day 6

We start our day with sea kayak orientation. Guides cover paddling, snorkeling from a kayak, and other techniques. After lunch, paddle to a nearby reef to snorkel from the kayaks. Scuba diving is also available whether you are a certified diver or want to try scuba for the first time.

Friday, Day 7

We begin our last full day with windsurfing instruction. Guests may also choose between activities such as kayak rolling lessons, , scuba diving classes, paddleboarding, surfing, fishing, or snorkeling around the island. Fishermen are always pleasantly surprised to find out that we even pay for your fishing license, so there's no waiting around for the ranger before you can begin to fish!

Saturday, Day 8

Island activities in the morning. After lunch we return to Belize City. Our arrival time cannot be predicted since it depends on factors we cannot control. Therefore, guests should not make other plans for Saturday night, and our last night’s lodging is included in the trip price. You will not get back in time to catch an international flight.

After checking into the Biltmore, guests are on their own for dinner.
